Pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The art of wax-resist (batik) egg decoration in Slavic cultures dates back to the pre-Christian era, which explains the large variety of it motifs and symbols. The design elements may vary from region to region, and even from village to village. Importantly, tradition of pysanka was preserved till nowadays with its symbolic meaning - wishes of protection, fecundity, and love.
